The number of bitcoins associated with illegal activities has reached more than 890 thousand (about $ 9.7 billion). This is evidenced by data from the Market Intel portal from Chainalysis.
The largest number is used on darknet marketplaces – 585 thousand BTC. More than 204 thousand coins are stolen funds. Over 98 thousand BTC are stored in the organizers of scam projects wallets and 3 thousand BTC are related to other illegal activities.
Regardless of the origin, bitcoins associated with illegal activities are usually sent to cryptocurrency exchanges.
Chainalysis launched the Market Intel data and analytics portal on July 27. It is designed for asset managers and regulators interested in monitoring cryptocurrency markets.
